While I have been painting professionally for many years, I have just recently arrived at a gateway in my journey as an artist and painter. My work has always been about color and the architecture of painting. The relationships between colors, one to another, and the delineations between those colors in an environment have always captivated me. My hope is that through my work I will share with others what is being revealed to me as an artist. I want the viewers of my work to come along on my traverses through these newly discovered landscapes and allow the canvas to speak to them in a language so visceral it can only be translated by an omnipotent God, the only author of such a sacred vernacular. And yet, all of my work is performed on canvas which is 'earthbound'.
Not only the color palette is earthbound, but the plane from which my work is done is the horizontal...on the floor to be specific. Due to the inordinate amount of glazes that each color represents, each one of my pieces is painted on the horizontal and I am therefore afforded an aerial view to determine the translucency of each layer. This technique helps to 'control' the pooling of each water based glaze, although half the time I do not know if I am the controller or the controllee. I also enjoy an affinity for naturally occurring colors. The stone-like qualities of the Omega Collection determined the series name, Omega being one of the ancient Greek words for rock. The hues introduced in each piece reflect the extravagance of God and His creation and the relationship therein that is, I believe, inextricably linked.
I love to listen to what people have to say when they experience my work for the first time. Amazed at what I have been told is the combustible combination of translucency, strength, and sheer size, they often do not know whether to stand back or get up close and touch it. I want people to get close in order to see through all the layers that appear both tangible yet illusive at the same time. The transversal lines which delineate the sections of the color fields are meant to give the color parameters but in no way restrict the sections from intermingling with one another. As a matter of fact, where these colors intersect and juxtapose one another is where I believe the painting delivers up its messages. This is how each piece dances and is in no way controlled by me, the artist. It's something I do not have to force; it comes naturally and it gives me great joy. I believe my work whispers something to each viewer, something just for them.
I want those whom view my work to know that God has a plan for them too. To stop for a moment, and get lost in the passion of the intersecting colors that somehow dramatically relate to one another, is a gift. It is my hope that upon viewing my work, one will have the opportunity to pause and look into his/her own soul, as if through a window, and see himself/herself as God does.
